One thing that I hear a lot from the small business owners I speak to is that they are too busy running their tax or accounting firm to be able to spend time on their website. And I’m sympathetic to that problem. After all, I’m a small business owner too. I know how time-consuming it can be.
Websites are table stakes for small businesses
So when I found this article in Forbes, it really grabbed my attention. The article, titled “3 Reasons Websites are Vital for Small Businesses,” makes a strong case that small businesses – yes, even small tax preparation and accounting firms – actually need a website. I’ll let you read the whole article for yourself, but two points that jumped out at me were:
- First impressions. Potential clients search Google for your business before they ever call to schedule that first appointment. That means that your website is creating the first impression for your firm. As the article says, potential clients are “likely to dismiss you entirely should they believe your website doesn’t reflect the kind of experience your business – or a business like yours – should offer.”
- Lost business. “If you don’t have a website, you’re missing out on opportunities for customers to identify who you are and if they want to spend money with you.” That pretty much speaks for itself.
Whether we like it or not, a website is table stakes these days – even for small firms. Not having a website, or having a bad website, means lost opportunities and lost business.
